It’s the summer season. The time for vacations and getting away from the daily grind. The days are bright, hot and longer. It’s the time of year people get out and see the world. In summer time you hear the cheers of the local baseball team and music in the streets. The ice-cream truck plays music and what seems like a million kids chasing it down the street with joy. People at the local pools working on the perfect tan. Maybe a trip or two to the beach for fun and relaxation. Here in America we celebrate our independence with fireworks and hotdogs. All the big concerts draw thousands of people who sing their favorite songs with their favorite artists. One of my favorite summer activities is enjoying some amazing watermelon and grilling amazing food on the back porch with my Fiance.
For the local church this is also the time for their leaders and amazing volunteers to get away and recharge. Sunday morning attendance fluctuates up and down like a boat in the ocean. But I believe rest is pertinent for the long-term growth of the church. Even Jesus recognized a need for rest in Mark 6:30-31. We need to stop take a breath before we continue doing ministry.
One of the results of this, for a young church, is lack of volunteers during this season. We want to make sure everyone that volunteers has their time to recharge and refocus from time to time. At STORYCHURCH I have the honor of serving with some of the most dedicated people. They are the reason that our community will be better and stronger. They are the reason our city will find Jesus. Jesus brings love, hope and life hurting people. They sacrifice time and their bodies to further the kingdom of God. We have had people step up and serve in areas that are not there preferable area because they love and care for each other to have a break from time to time.
One of these amazing volunteers that we call our Dream Team Members is Jordan Sanger. Jordan is one of our most dependable hard-working volunteers we have. Jordan serves on our spectacular Welcome Team as a door greeter. Jordan will show up on days he was not been asked to serve and tells me “I am here just in case we need extra help”. This amazing man has also been seen taking it upon himself to drive his personal vehicle to collect our large signs. We have 6 signs we place up and down the road for people to find our church. Jordan had been a staple for us at STORYCHURCH, willing to do what is needed of him. He has also been an amazing source of encouragement. He always a smile on his face and makes everyone feel welcomed and excepted. He speaks words of encouragement. Characteristics that are priceless to someone that needs a friend.
I feel very blessed to have Jordan apart of our amazing STORYCHURCH family. I pray that God continues to bless our church with people like Jordan. The world would be a much better place if we had more Jordan’s in our communities. If you are ever blessed enough to meet Jordan, give him a hug or handshake and thank him for being an amazing young man.
